Reflecting on this year’s Community Service Day

As the weather turns colder and 2019 heads toward its close, we wanted to reflect on one of biggest and most beloved events of the year: our annual Community Service Day.

Held each August, the event represents a great opportunity for our people to get out of the office and make a lasting impact for an outstanding organization in our community. This year’s partner was the Clara Barton School, a K–2 public elementary school in Philly’s Feltonville neighborhood.

The mission of the Clara Barton School is to develop inquisitive learners who are eager to meet their potential, communicate effectively, take responsibility for their learning, and are internally motivated to learn. At Clara Barton, the dedicated faculty and staff have created an environment that inspires learning and positive social and emotional development for their nearly 660 students.

While all of our offices participate in annual service initiatives, the Philadelphia event is the largest, combining our teams with colleagues across several Publicis Groupe sister agencies—including Digitas Health, Razorfish Health, and Verilogue.

Our people spent the day painting three floors of hallways, 13 gorgeous murals designed by Publicis employees, and black-top games on the property; completing a photo installation that included 60 framed photos of Clara Barton students; revamping the school’s garden; and running a carnival for the students, parents, faculty, and staff of the school community.

The most ambitious effort coming out of this year’s event, however, was our commitment to constructing a brand-new playground for the enjoyment of both the Clara Barton and surrounding neighborhood communities.

Through fundraising efforts supported by a number of our Publicis partners, we were able to break ground on the playground in September. A few weeks ago, the project culminated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the new playground. We are so thankful to have played a part in creating this space for the families of the greater Clara Barton community.

We are always grateful for the strong partnerships that we build through our Community Service Day initiatives, and this year was no different. People like the outstanding and dedicated staff at Clara Barton are critical contributors to excellence in our local community, and we could not be prouder to stand in support of the outstanding work that they do each day.
