Position Summary



The Associate Director of Programmatic will be responsible for cultivating agency and client relationships at senior management levels. He/she will be responsible for achieving spend targets and capitalizing on upsell opportunities, new business pitches, and organic growth.  The Associate Director drives adoption of PHMP across the Publicis Groupe agencies through advocacy, education, and account management. 


This highly motivated, detail-oriented individual manages a team to ensure the value proposition of PHMP’s offering is fully understood, embraced, and translated into highly successful campaigns for our clients. The Associate Director leads a team responsible for defining innovative strategies for each client.  He/she provides strategic thought leadership on process, audience strategies, campaign optimization, and the growth of the PHMP operation. It is the Associate Directors responsibility to ensure that all applicable programmatic techniques and technologies are deployed appropriately for optimal campaign performance. 


The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in digital media buying, with a focus on Addressable Display, Video, and Mobile campaign management.  The role requires strong analytical thinking, excellent presentation skills, experience managing and coaching direct reports in a rapid growth environment, and deep experience in the DSP and exchange-based media buying industry.


As a thought leader, the Associate Director must possess a strong inner drive to redesign the digital communications landscape, to engage and challenge some of the finest minds in the industry, and to further grow and establish a new type of media entity for PHM that seamlessly integrates technology and strategy while aligning with our clients establishes procedures and policies. 



  • Manage a team of managers and supervisors that serve as liaisons between PHMP and Client/PHM internal teams

  • Assume accountability and ownership of PHMP operational successes and failures for assigned suite of accounts

  • Provide senior leadership and serve as the escalation point on any client meetings and deliverables

  • Identify opportunities related to platform technology, data, and media inventory sources that provide value for the agency and/or our clients

  • Responsible for the growth of current and prospective accounts, ensuring the right team is in place for each client

  • Partner with teams across the Publicis Network on both internal and external initiatives

  • Drive programmatic inclusion on client pitches

  • Continuously and creatively improve how PHMP is adopted

  • Educate team on changes in the marketplace that require adjustments in strategy and tactical executions

  • Educate and influence the team on the level of insights being pulling from the campaigns and shared in client deliverables

  • Oversee training, mentoring and development of direct reports

  • Translate In-depth understanding and application of technical media concepts and principles to the greater team.

  • Understand the client's business/marketing objectives and how programmatic contributes to the overall business goals of the client.

  • Be seen as the programmatic "expert" by the clients

  • Possess effective listening skills to react to and resolve issues, and identify opportunities

  • Drives programmatic media strategy, analysis, recommendations, and review optimizations with the support of the team

  • Owns the revenue & projections for all assigned clients

  • Proactively searches out best practices from around the network to strengthen the team’s delivery

  • Contributes to establishing processes, best practices, and documentation for the team (PHMP)

  • Demonstrates ability to work across all channels and multiple accounts

  • Forms and maintains effective relationships with team, clients, and vendors

  • Approaches brand dialogue from a holistic media perspective

  • Effectively balancing client and PHM team demands to deliver high-impact work on time, on budget

  • Deliver quality, actionable feedback to the team

  • Show an adaptable management style and high hiring standards

  • Manages staff, workflow and department capabilities

  • Participates in formal development processes, goal setting, mid and end of year reviews, etc.

  • Takes accountability for one's work as well as the work of the team

  • Works closely with client to identify areas of opportunity for the business

  • Knows when to integrate agency products, such as Connections Planning into client business

  • Collaborates with BI, Paid Search, Media Strategy, Ad Tech, and Connections planning teams to advance integration and cross functional agency performance

  • Consistently manages client and internal expectations without alienating either party

  • Align with PHMP teams across all offices to deliver a cohesive product at the PHM level 


Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. or MBA, preferably in Marketing, Advertising, or Human Sciences

  • 5+ years in digital media or account planning, with special emphasis on planning and creating insights

  • 3+ years with increasing responsibility within an agency or media company

  • 2+ years of people managing experience

  • Programmatic Marketing subject matter expertise

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills

  • Intelligent, entrepreneurial type with strong interpersonal skills and work ethic

  • Ability to lead projects independently from start to finish

  • Collaboration with internal and external teams to make decisions and maintain forward momentum

  • In-depth understanding of digital advertising landscape from either media planning and/or sales planner perspective

  • High competency level in MS Office products; demonstrated advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Excellent time management / project management skills, with ability to manage detail work and communicate project status effectively to all levels

  • Proven ability to lead people (mentoring and developing) and projects

  • Ability to anticipate problems before they happen

  • Strong knowledge of external media marketplace
